About The Program
Elephant Laptop Rehabilitation is a community-focused technology program developed by Corey Snipes and operated by Twomile Heavy Industries, Inc.
Corporate and government laptops that are well-built and designed for repairability (e.g., Lenovo Thinkpads) are purchased at auction or rescued from e-waste streams. These are given new life with available hardware upgrades and lightweight open source software (e.g., Linux Mint, NixbookOS, FreeBSD, or Haiku).
Since modern Microsoft products require significant hardware resources for even the most basic activities, a rescued Elephant laptop runs quickly and efficiently, providing a smooth experience for most people's common usage.
Through informal outreach channels, interested people are matched with available equipment. A laptop is then prepared specifically for a given recipient, and then shipped or delivered to them. There is no charge for the laptop but we do appreciation donations to help offset the cost of parts, repair, and shipping.
When someone no longer needs their Elephant laptop, the program will purchase it back. They can also re-donate or recycle it.
If you are interested in receiving a laptop, or if you have hardware to donate, please get in touch.
